Mountain View neighborhoods we serve
Home base is 1040 Grant Road, near Cuesta Park and across the street from the El Camino Hospital campus at 2500 Grant Road. From there the plumber's route runs along El Camino Real, Central Expressway, Rengstorff Avenue and the US-101 and SR-85 interchanges.
Monta Loma, Rengstorff Park, Blossom Valley, Cuernavaca, Old Mountain View around Castro Street, the Shoreline business area, Whisman Station and Gemello are all in the regular route. Because the housing age differs so much between them, the first questions we ask on the phone are the year the house was built and whether it is a slab or a raised foundation. Slab leak repair and repiping calls usually split along that line.
Mountain View ZIP codes
Street delivery uses 94040, 94041 and 94043. The codes 94035, 94039 and 94042 are post-office-box ZIPs, with 94035 also tied to Moffett Field. They rarely appear on a residence, but they show up on business mail and bills, so we treat any of the six as Mountain View when the job address is inside the city. A burst pipe in 94041 and a failed water heater in 94043 get the same 24/7 dispatch as a blocked drain in 94040.
Los Altos and the towns around it
Los Altos uses 94022 and 94024 for street delivery, and 94023 is a post-office-box code. The city borders Mountain View on the northwest and northeast, so drains, water heaters and leak detection calls cross the line daily.
Further out we also dispatch to Sunnyvale (94085, 94086, 94087, 94088 and 94089), Palo Alto (94301, 94302, 94303, 94304, 94306 and 94309) and Cupertino (95014 and 95015). Those towns do not have dedicated pages on this site yet. For them the useful detail is the same set of questions: home age, foundation type and whether the water supply is City, Cal Water or another provider.
| Town | Border with Mountain View | Dispatch note |
|---|---|---|
| Mountain View | Home city | Dispatched from Grant Road, 94040 |
| Los Altos | Northwest and northeast | Own page, 94022 and 94024 |
| Sunnyvale | East | Dispatched from the same 24/7 line |
| Palo Alto | North and northwest | Dispatched from the same 24/7 line |
| Cupertino | Southeast via Los Altos and Sunnyvale | Dispatched from the same 24/7 line |
Before you call, have your street address ready
The dispatcher needs the street address, the nearest cross street and a way to reach you if the call drops. With that, the window comes quickly. If you are calling for a family member or a tenant, add their name and a number for access.
How dispatch decides who comes to you
When you call, the dispatcher looks at the address, the type of problem and which licensed plumber is closest and equipped. A sewer backup needs a machine on the truck. A water heater replacement needs the right unit in stock. Those facts, plus traffic, set the window we give you.
Because Mountain View, Los Altos and the other towns on this page sit close together, the plumber's drive is short. The main variable is traffic on El Camino Real, Central Expressway and the US-101 and SR-85 interchanges.
What differs between the towns
- Water providers differ by address. The City of Mountain View serves much of Mountain View, and California Water Service's Los Altos Suburban district serves Los Altos and portions of Mountain View and other neighbors.
- Sewer responsibility differs. Mountain View's FAQ puts the lateral on the owner. Los Altos puts the owner's share at the first joint after the property line.
- Permits come from the city where the house sits. The Building Division in Mountain View is not the office for a Los Altos address.
Tell the dispatcher your street address, not just your mailing city, because it decides which rules apply.
Neighbors we reach by the same route
From Grant Road the shortest paths go along El Camino Real toward Los Altos and Sunnyvale, along Central Expressway toward Sunnyvale and Palo Alto and along Foothill Expressway toward Cupertino. Highway 101 and State Route 85 serve longer trips. The plumber chooses the route at dispatch time based on traffic.
That is why the window we give you can change between calls on the same day. We update you if it moves.
The same state plumbing code applies in every town on this page, but the permit office does not, so the city where the house sits decides who inspects.
Service area questions
Do you cover Los Altos Hills and Stanford?
Call with the address. Los Altos Hills shares sewer treatment with Mountain View and Los Altos, but terrain and septic use vary by street, so we confirm the job before dispatch.
Is there a travel fee?
The price is stated before work starts, and that price includes the trip. Ask when you call if you want the breakdown.
Do you serve businesses as well as homes?
Yes. See commercial plumbing for after-hours calls, grease handling and backflow work.
